Another year gone! Is it just me or are the years getting shorter and shorter? Regardless of such, we preserved for yet another year and, as of this writing, have assisted almost 80 animals. I do expect that figure to grow over the last few weeks of the year with pets getting into rich holiday foods and ornaments. All told, more than 2,500 companion, service and assistance animals have received help through HHF’s programs over the last 8-1/2 years. Thank you for making that possible.
2018 will go down in my book as the year of the blockage – both foreign body and urinary blockages. We’ve also assisted with amputations due to trauma and infection, cataract surgeries, hospitalizations and medical treatments for a variety of ailments, and, sadly, much more. We’ve also provided safe haven to numerous cats and dogs and, even a ferret named Phoebe, thanks to our emergency foster care program. However, this program is in danger of going away because we cannot seem to attract short-term foster homes to help at-risk animals whose people are battling illness, hospitalizations, domestic violence, and even temporary homelessness. Won’t you consider offering up a spare bedroom to help prevent a pet from losing their home?
Many dogs and cats are still alive today because of the generosity of our supporters. We thank you for your past support and hope we can count on continued support through the remainder of the Indy Give! Campaign, which concludes on December 31st at midnight or during Colorado Gives Day on Tuesday, December 4th. Of course your donations are welcome at any time of the year because the applications come in on a daily basis.
Not sure our mission is as important to support as animal rescue? Consider where those homeless animals are coming from. One million each year are given up due to their humans’ financial challenges. Or, take a look at your own pet and think about how you would feel if you couldn’t afford care or needed help and none was available. Safety net charities like HHF are few and far between and each new year sees more of these organizations closing up shop due to lack of funding. If you already donate, thank you! If not, please consider helping a pet remain in their home this holiday season and beyond. Donate at indygive.com/hhf or https://www.coloradogives.org/HarleysHopeFoundation/overview.
Happy holidays to you and all of your two-legged and four-legged family members!
