Happy Tails

Commitment. That is what this case exemplifies. Myles is a special-needs dog adopted by Kassiann 8 years ago. Shortly afterwards, she discovered Myles was born with only half a brain, a cleft palate, and other medical issues. The veterinarians told her he might live a year. Many would have given up at this point, opting for euthanasia, but Kassiann took her commitment to Myles seriously and has fought hard to give him a long and happy life.

Recently, Myles needed to undergo orthopedic surgery to correct a leg injury. Kassiann paid for two previous surgeries, both of which failed right away. Dr. Scot Swainson of Colorado Canine Orthopedics, crafted a special procedure, taking Myles’ health challenges into consideration. Dr. Swainson was convinced a third surgery would do the trick. The only problem? Kassiann was tapped out from the first two surgeries. She raised a percentage of the estimated cost through Myles’ Facebook followers and friends, then applied to Harley’s Hope.

Despite the application coming in at a time when we were swamped with so many other cases, there was no way we could say no to a pet parent who has spent so much time, money and effort to honor her commitment. Myles underwent his special surgery in early January, and is doing well as of this writing. Our wish is for every companion animal to enjoy the same level of love and commitment Kassiann has shown to Myles the Wonder Dog!
