Planned Giving

Recently, HHF was notified that we’ve been named in a will. As of this writing, we don’t know whose will but are very grateful to this animal lover for making plans to continue helping pets in need beyond the end of their life.

Simple bequests are very easy to make and can be transformational gifts for small charities that operate month-to-month. What do we mean by the word bequest? Bequests are gifts made as part of a will or trust and are one of the most popular and flexible ways to support the causes that are important to you and your family. A bequest can be to a person or a trust or it can be a charitable bequest to a nonprofit organization.

A 2020 survey conducted by the Gallup poll found that 45% of Americans have a will, which is especially important if you have children, pets, or own property. In addition to leaving a gift to charity, we also encourage pet parents to make provisions in their will for their pets’ care via a simple pet trust. As of 2022, pet trusts are legal in all 50 states and Washington D.C. You can obtain additional information and sample language for these trusts here: https://www.aspca.org/pet-care/pet-planning/pet-trust-primer
