When we first moved to Colorado I was amazed at how short the shelf life of a banana was and hated tossing bananas that has gone bad. I came across a dog treat recipe that called for mashed banana so now I take overripe bananas and run them through a potato ricer and freeze them in baggies 1/ cup in each bag.
They are super easy to make, only need to bake for 20 minutes and mix up quick.

INGREDIENTS
- 1 egg
- 1/3 cup peanut butter (I use smooth but you can use crunchy)
- 1 cup whole wheat flour
- ½ cup oats (I use steel cut, they are easier to mix)
- ½ cup mashed banana
INSTRUCTIONS
- Preheat oven to 300
- Combine all ingredients in mixing bowl. Order doesn’t matter.
- Mix dough until ball forms. Add more flour if dough is sticky.
- Roll out dough.
- Use any cookie cutter. I used a small round one that’s just the perfect size for individual treats (see photo). At Christmas, I’ll use Christmas cookie cutters and give them as gifts. For Gotcha Days or Birthdays I form them into thick “bones” (see photo).
- Lay them out on parchment paper or spray pan with oil.
- Bake at 300 for about 20 minutes. I like to make them super crispy.
- Put in the dog treat jar!
