When we launched the emergency food program in March 2020, little did we know we’d all be contending with ongoing issues related to the pandemic in 2024. Sadly, we lost one of our major pet food sources in 2022 when they went out of business. And, our second source notified us in late December that they could no longer provide us donated pet food. Why? Because there is an extreme shortage of pet food and too many people in need. When the pandemic shutdown occurred, companies stopped manufacturing pet food. Yes, they did resume, but because of that stoppage, there is less excess food reaching its expiration date, and therefore, eligible to be donated.
We’re told the shortage will most likely last another year. It is our hope to be able to reinstate the pet pantries at some point in the future, but we simply don’t know if that’s going to be possible. In the meantime, we will endeavor to respond to emergency situations, delivering food to our older pet parents, and those with disabilities, as our inventory and resources allow.
If you’d like to donate to assist with these emergency deliveries, please know that the food has to be in its original packaging. If it has been opened, please tape the bag shut before handing it over to HHF. Gift cards to Wal-Mart, King Soopers, Wag ‘N Wash, etc. are also gratefully accepted so we can shop for the specific food items we lack. We also have wish lists up on Amazon and Chewy.com for your shopping convenience.

If you prefer to give tangible items, consider checking out our Wish Lists and donating an item for a pet in need. Our wish lists include medical items like dog wheelchairs, list straps, glucometers in addition to food and treat items.
