In honor of National Pets in Film Day on June 19, we’re taking a look back at some of our favorites. Who are your favorite furry movie stars?
Best Tearjerker — Hachi: A Dog’s Tale. Do not watch this film without a full box of tissues and a big glass of water to replace the fluids you’ll lose through sobbing! Starring Richard Gere and Layla, Chico, and Forrest.
Honorable Mention: The Art of Racing in the Rain, Marley and Me, Old Yeller.
Best Comedy — Turner and Hooch. Who can resist a buddy comedy starring a young Tom Hanks and Beasley, a big, drooly Dogue de Bordeaux, fighting crime and bonding?!
Honorable Mention: Beethoven, Beverly Hills Chihuahua
Most Heartwarming — Homeward Bound, the Incredible Journey. Three lost pets in search of a way back home to their family, voiced by Sally Field, Michael J. Fox, and Don Ameche. A great family film.

Best Dog in Film — Lassie, of course!
Honorable Mention: Rin Tin Tin, Toto in the Wizard of Oz, Lady and the Tramp
