Director’s Notes

Happy Fall, Y’all! We at Harley’s Hope are preparing for a very busy holiday season with the Give! Campaign starting on November 1st, as well as Colorado Gives Day on December 10th. And, we hope you’ll join us for Painting for a Cause at Painting with a Twist on Powers Blvd. this November 10th. Then get into the holiday spirit on December 7 for our Santa Paws Photos and Holiday Boutique event at Hank’s K9 Social Club. Rumor has it that Santa will be joined by Mrs. Claus and a few elves, too!

Applications for assistance continue to flow in on a regular basis and we do the best we can to help as many animals as we can. Be sure to check out local service dog Max’s story under our Happy Tails article. Speaking of which, our No Fleas on Us Estate Sale was rescheduled to October 5th due to iffy weather, so please join us. Proceeds will support our many safety net programs and services, including the Service Animal Aid Fund, which helped Max and his person, Justin.

With Halloween coming up in just a few weeks, we’d like to share a few reminders regarding animal health and safety:

  • Cobweb decorations can harm both domestic animals when used indoors, as well as wildlife when used outdoors. Please consider carefully the decorations you use and help keep those animals out of the emergency clinics.
  • Candy, particularly chocolate or anything with xylitol, can prove fatal to pets when ingested. Steal what you need from your trick-or-treater’s bag, then stash the rest away from furry family members.
  • Animals who fear loud noises or are particularly skittish will probably freak out at the doorbell ringing on Halloween night. Please be sure to take their feelings into consideration and place them in a room away from the front door. Compression vests and catnip may also help, but if your pet suffers from severe anxiety caused by noises, please consult with your veterinarian about medical treatment.

Happy Howl’oween!
