The Harley’s Hope Foundation Board of Directors is responsible for providing oversight and governing the organization. We were fortunate to have several new board members join in the fall of 2025 and would like to take the opportunity to introduce them! In this issue, please meet our Volunteer Coordinator Emily Keim.
Why does our mission matter to you personally?
I found Harley’s Hope after one of our dogs needed emergency surgery that we were fortunate to be able to afford. My heart went out to any pet parent unable to obtain treatment for their pet and needing to make a tough decision. When I learned about the services that Harley’s Hope provides, I knew that I wanted to be involved.
What do you see as the Board’s most important responsibility?
Our organization is currently going through some change and working to grow our Board and our volunteer base. It is the Board’s responsibility to see us through this change and to ensure that we are able to drive our mission forward.
What advice would you give someone considering volunteering with Harley’s Hope?
I started with Harley’s Hope as a general volunteer and quickly stepped into the Volunteer Coordinator role. My advice is not to hesitate to speak up if there is something specific that interests you or that you feel you have a skill for. Prior experience is typically not required for most of our volunteer needs – just a willingness to learn.
How do you like to spend your free time?
I am a recent retiree and first time grandparent so I am finding new ways to spend my time! My husband and I enjoy outdoor activities and travel. We currently have one dog, a rehomed Spinone Italiano named Nelli, and frequently dog sit for our two “grand dogs” – a rescue pug named Daisy and a Great Pyrenees/Anatolian Shepherd named Murphy.
