August 28th is recognized as Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day. According to the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), grieving the loss of a pet takes place over many stages, including acknowledging your loss, your pain, and allowing yourself to express your emotions.
The AVMA also suggests continuing your relationship with your pet through memories such as going through photos, sharing those memories with friends, family, or a pet loss group, making a tribute to your pet, possibly even writing them a letter sharing what they meant to you.
Harley’s Hope was founded because of pet loss and grief and the desire to make sense of Harley’s death. Our services focus on trying to prevent needless use of euthanasia and surrenders and to recognize the importance of the human-animal bond. We do this daily through our support services, but we also created a Memorial Wall on our website, so grieving pet parents can build a tribute to their own pets.
You can learn more about creating a tribute to your own special companion at https://www.harleys-hopefoundation.org/memorial-wall/.
