Harley’s Hope is known for its veterinary assistance, but that’s not all we do. As a safety net charity, we try to identify why animals lose their homes or lives and do what we can to help. One of our other services is emergency foster care for pets whose people are hospitalized. Here is just one of the foster cases we’ve handled over the years involving Christine and her pup, Loeki.
Christine had recently relocated to the Colorado Springs area, but was hospitalized due to unforeseen circumstances. Because she had no one nearby to care for Loeki, the dog was placed at the Humane Society for several weeks. When the facility notified Christine that Loeki would be released for adoption if not picked up, her hospital social worker contacted Harley’s Hope.
We successfully coordinated the placement by matching Loeki with foster volunteer Lisa M., which included our foster coordinator, Taylor, personally picking up Loeki from the Humane Society to transfer her to Lisa’s home. Once there, she passed a meet-and-greet with Lisa’s four dogs and settled in quickly.
About a week later, Christine was released from the hospital, sooner than anticipated. Loeki and Christine were successfully reunited, and Christine expressed deep gratitude to Harley’s Hope for keeping Loeki safe.
