Betty and Jesus are roommates and best buds. So, when Jesus began showing symptoms including lethargy and having accidents in the house, Betty knew something was up. As a retiree, she lives on a very limited income and needed help. Ordinarily, her daughter helps out, but she lost her job during the pandemic. HHF was able to help Betty and Jesus thanks to a grant from the Next50 Initiative aimed at older Coloradans, and to HHF donor Beverly B., who specifically asked that her gifts go to seniors with companions in need. While the doctor was able to rule out diabetes, there is concern about thickening of the blood, so Jesus will continue to be monitored and receive medical treatments.
