Forever in Our Hearts

“No longer by my side, but forever in my heart.” This is a sentiment most, if not all, pet parents can relate to. The loss of a pet can be even more painful than the loss of a human family member. Why? Because pets are known for giving unconditional love – no games, no baggage – just love – and they don’t live nearly long enough.

In recognition of this profound relationship we share with our fur babies, Harley’s Hope launched a Memorial Wall last year. This is a place for you to share your thoughts and grief and photos of your lost loved ones, and, at the same, help other pets in need.

This month, we share the Lipsky family’s appreciation for Harley Lipsky, beloved canine lost unexpectedly and far too soon to cancer. Miss Harley was and is still loved by Eric, Eunice, Chopper and Family. Their Memorial Wall testimonial is, “Ms. Harley Barley, you will always be our crazy little pup-pup-puppy, and the best Christmas gift we ever received. You were taken too soon, but the memories you gave us will last a lifetime.”

According to longtime HHF donor, David Lipsky, “One of my parent’s dogs is named Harley, and she died unexpectedly at the age of 8 of a silent cancer with no signs at all until the very end. Our Harley had HSA (hemangiosarcoma). Unfortunately, it was probably one of the worst cancers to get for early detection because there were literally zero signs or symptoms until the very end, and apparently it can be even hard to detect if you check for it. It was just very bad luck.”

Sadly, many warning signs of serious issues like cancer can be difficult, if not impossible, to detect until it is too late. Stay tuned for more information on our upcoming free Pet Cancer Awareness seminar, happening later this year, in support of our Louis Steinwedel Memorial Pet Cancer Fund.
